This report presents the results of the training organized by the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB). The report presents the different steps in the implementation of the African Territorial Trade and Investment Agency (ATIA) aimed at strengthening the capacity of African cities to access capital markets.
The training also presented the various instruments to support cities and local governments, strengthening the capacity of African cities to access capital markets, as well as products and intermediation for financing.
The participants, financial directors of local governments from twenty-six African countries, also had the opportunity to share their experiences and visit financial institutions to have a better understanding of the functioning of financial markets.
The report also details the different modules of the training and the topics covered such as the capital markets ecosystem, financial and fiscal analysis of cities and local governments, financial rating of cities and local governments, innovative financing mechanisms for cities and local governments, as well as products and intermediation for access to capital markets.
